easy toy organization

toy organizaiton1 (640x428)
If your house is anything like our house, it can easily become consumed with toys, especially after Christmastime! While we try to limit the amount of toys that our kids have, and try to send old toys out as new ones come in, it can still be a little overwhelming to get them all organized.

Brody and Jillian keep most of their toys in their bedrooms and their closets, but after we moved, I put a few toys into our guest room/playroom closet. This room has a TV and plenty of floor space for them to play with their toys in one area. Hopefully, by keeping these toys a little more organized, it will make clean-up a little easier.

This is a quick, simple, inexpensive way to organize toys. The boxes are plastic shoeboxes from Walmart that cost less than $1 each. The labels are chalk board labels from Hobby Lobby that I wrote on with a chalk pen. Super easy!!

I’m sure it would be helpful for Jillian if I added pictures on the inside bottom of the box so that she knows what goes in each box. While Brody can’t read yet, he has memorized the boxes and can recognize the words to know which toys go in each box.

The labels are adhesive stickers so they stuck easily to the boxes and to the canvas bins.

Books! Do your kids love to take off of the shelves like mine do? :)

I separated the boy and girl dress-up clothes into 2 boxes. The boy box is labeled “costumes” and the girl box is labeled “dress-up”.

We have an armiore in the room that holds the TV. The bottom drawers hold toys as well. This is the puzzle/coloring book drawer. It’s within easy reach from the kids since it’s at the bottom, it’s hidden when guest come since we can just shut the drawer.

i LOVE those chalkboard stickers! It looks great! I also love that the puzzles are put in drawers.. we lose more pieces with those darn pieces getting scattered all over the playroom from just being stacked near the toy bins! Brilliant!

Fantastic idea! I need to get my booty in gear and make this happen in our playroom! We have a gazillion bins with unorganized chaos in each and it drives me nuts!

I love the extra books in the bottom of the drawer! Great idea! We forget about those crazy unusual spaces sometimes :)

This comes at the perfect time for us. My 9-year old daughter's room is just out of control. I was thinking of some under the bed storage boxes but love the small ones too. And the labels are fabulous!!

Thanks for the ideas!!

I love it!! We have a similar bookcase in Cameron's room and left the bottom ones open for books, but put drawers on the top for bibs, burp clothes and feeding stuff. Once he gets more into toys (he's only 6 months), I know we will be adding some plastic bins like you have! Thanks for the idea!
