Brody the Barista

When Brody became potty trained a few months ago, he began waking-up early in the mornings so he could go to the bathroom. For the past month or two, he has been waking up between 5:30-6:00 most morning. If we are really lucky he might sleep until 6:30, but that’s only once every few weeks. For a while, I was trying to get-up before Brody, but I just can’t beat him most mornings. Josh is almost always awake when Brody wakes-up and has been encouraging him to go back to his room and rest or play quietly until it’s light outside. We are working hard on getting him to stay in his room past 5:30! :)

One of the perks to these early mornings is that Brody somehow learned how to work our Keurig. I guess he watched us use it enough and figured it out. Before he comes into our room to wake me up, he makes a cup of coffee for me and has it waiting for me under the Keurig. I usually wake-up most mornings to a sweet little voice saying, “Mommy, get up! Your french ba-nilla coffee is ready!” Such sweet words to this sleepy momma’s ear!

Here he is making coffee for me! He gets a stool from our table, turns on the machine, chooses the coffee (always French vanilla), and then makes the coffee! He knows not to move it once it is made so he doesn’t get burned. He also doesn’t take out the K-cup after he is done because he knows it’s hot, too. He literally just makes the coffee and walks away! :)

On our way to Mother’s Day Out yesterday, I heard his little voice from the backseat randomly say, “There is only one french ba-nilla left.” I asked him to repeat himself because I wasn’t sure what he was saying and as he repeated the same thing. I realized he was talking about coffee. When I got home from dropping him off, I checked our K-cup carousel and saw this. Only one French vanilla! :)

He was right, and I hadn’t even noticed since he was the one who had been making coffee!

When I picked him up from MDO I asked him if he would like to go buy some more k-cups. (We have tons of regular Folgers and Starbucks cups, but I love the flavored coffee best!) He was so excited to get to chose the coffee flavor. He walked straight to the coffee display, picked-up this box of French vanilla K-cup, and said, “Here it is! French ba-nilla!” Smart boy! :)

He also chose chocolate glazed-donut, which is one of our other favorites!

He was so excited about the new K-cups that he talked all night last night about how he was going to make chocolate donut coffee this morning! :) I’m so thankful for his servant’s heart! What blessed parents we are to have such a sweet little guy and to have a live-in barista! :)

That is seriously the cutest thing ever! I really need one of these in my house even though we don't drink coffee, but if your little boy can use it, I know I can, too. My mama, my father-in-law, and my husband's grandma drink coffee, and all we have is an old percolator! We don't even have a real coffee pot! (My husband's grandma brought up her "extra" percolator when she came to visit the first time, so she could make coffee. Yes, she still had TWO percolators.) I have no idea how to use it, but what's worse is that I can't use a coffee pot either! So I need a Keurig. (I know they make hot chocolate, too. :)

Oh my goodness! How hilarious and adorable!!

When Tucker potty trained, he started waking up much earlier too. We told him he could wake up when it was light outside, and that finally got me till 7am. Earlier than it used to be, but livable!

I just love that Brody makes coffee!!

I am curious to know which model of Keurig you have and if you recommend it. Also, where do you buy your K-cups? I'm going to take the Keurig plunge soon!

Hilarious! My husband makes my coffee for me every morning and my boys think it's a treat to carry my cup up to me (very gingerly, of course) and wake me up on the weekends when I get to sleep in a little bit. Gotta love a sweet smile and warm cup of a coffee to start your day!

Cute overload! Wyatt wakes up super early (between 5 and 6) every morning, but I need to teach him to make me coffee! We got him an alarm clock from One Step Ahead that lights up when he's allowed to leave his room - that works pretty well, and we've also taught him that he can't turn the TV on until the clock says 6:00. I was worried that he was waking up early just to get some TV time!

Too cute!! At least you have the best coffee service around.

I nanny a 3.5 and 4 year old, they both had issues with getting up way early to start their day. So both of their parents bought these "alarm clocks" for kids. When its daytime the alarm clock is yellow, and when it's night time the alarm clock is green {parents are able to determine the time of night it turns green, and visa versa for daytime} ... So they aren't allowed to come out until the clock is yellow! Both of them get so excited that they are able to "tell time" and run to their parents room when its light out!

I am sure you've seen this before since you are on top of it all! :) In any case, you have a great barista!

You may want to try this to help him stay in bed longer. http://www.goodnitelite.com/ It's a cute little light that you set a time on it. It will be a "blue moon" when it is bed time/need to stay in bed or in his room, and then at the time you set it for it will turn into an "orange sun".

We used this when my kids switched to toddler beds and they were wanting to get out all the time! I would start it set at 6 or so, and then slowly keep changing the time back.

We got one for our daughter who is now four and she used to get up at 5:30 and now sleeps til at least 7 or 7:30...let me tell you she lives and breathes by that light :) We got ours on Amazon,com.......TOTALLY worth every penny!!!

So darn cute! Maybe a tip for you? When our son was about the same age as Brody, he was getting up way to early. He would hear his dad in the shower at 5am and get up and lay on the floor outside the bathroom door. We bought him a clock for his room, (a regular face clock)and made a cardboard clock to hand next to it set for whatever time we were okay with him getting up. We told him that the hands on the real clock had to match the hands on the cardboard clock. It worked! And mama got some more sleep! :)

Hahaha! What an awesome little boy!
