Shades of Grey

For while now (about a year), we have been talking about repainting and redecorating Brody’s room to make it more of a big boy room. We finally decided it was time to do this, especially since Brody is now in a toddler bed.

This is the color scheme we are most likely going with for his room!

This is the bedding we ordered! I love chevron! I think it’s going to look super cute with some accent pillows with fun prints in yellow and turquoise.

We are planning to have the ceiling painted a creamy white color to match the trim and baseboards and have the walls painted grey.

I went to Sherwin Williams yesterday to choose a grey and quickly became overwhelmed by all my options! I asked one of the girls that worked there what some of the popular greys were and she told me grey wasn’t popular. I was so confused since they had a huge section of grey paint sample cards as well as big brochure of all their grey paint colors! Ha! Maybe she was new, or maybe she didn't know grey has become quite popular? :)

These are the sample cards I came home with yesterday.

I have a few favorites, but I am curious, do any of you have a grey paint color in your home that you love? We are trying to stay with a SW color because that’s where our painter buys his paint, but I am open to any recommendations that you have on greys! Thanks in advance for your help!

We just painted our new house and our painters used SW! We used Dove tail which is a dark grey for our master and LOVE it! We also used a lighter grey called Amazing Grey and it's a perfect shade for our bathroom and closest/dressing area! Sorry SW lady, grey is very popular haha:)

Can't wait to see the end of Brody's room!

Maybe these will help you....Emily asked her readers for help and got quite a few responses. Also, if you have time and go forward in her blog you can see the grays she tried and what she ended up with.

I believe that SW can color match. We painted the outside of our house a few years ago with Lowe's paint and the painter we used this time only uses SW paint too. So, he took a little bit of our old paint and SW matched it perfectly!! And as far as grey paint, we just painted our master bathroom a light grey called Cinderblock. It is Lowes Valspar paint color but I am assuming that SW can match! Have fun!

We picked a grey on SW by using their interactive site. You put in a room and 'paint' the walls, base boards, etc. It helps A LOT to see a color om four full walls. It will also match bedding to it, so you can really see it with the other colors you are going to use. We love this site, but you can spend a lot of time looking at colors!

I used SW's Lazy Gray as the main color in my house. It is very versatile and has been easy to match to any colors I wanted to use. I looked at a ton of different shades and like you was pretty overwhelmed by them all. I finally settled on this one and haven't been disappointed.

LOVE LOVE LOVE grey... that person really was out of the loop its the it color in all magazines. Its a rough color to deal with ... I wanted a true grey with no blue/purple undertones. Its in my bedroom and kitchen, my bedroom is grey and yellow!

I chose Sand Stone Cove. Its made by behr but you can get it at any color match place. Its subtle but I'm in love and I went through 23 colors. Below is a link/help guide you in the grey scheme. & As a little joke here is my brother trying to decide on a color

On the Rocks by Sherwin Williams is a great grey color. Our guest bedroom is painted that color. Its not to light and not to dark. Check it out :)

We used a porter paints color called "Steel City" and we LOVE IT! You can see how it looked in our living room and our old nursery here:

It reads a little bluish-grey and looks great paired with navy blue, green, yellow, dark grey, and white.

I just painted our laundry room grey last week and LOVE it. However, the grey I picked out is a little bluish, but still very nice. I can't think of the name of the color, but it was from a Valspar swatch.

we've been using a silver grey - which looks amazing. i love that it changes slightly with the light. but would warn to take some samples and see what they look like in different lights - our master bedroom changes colour throughout the day!

I think grey is a great color for a boy's room! I have 2 girls and one room is pink&green and the other's is pink&yellow. We got their paint at Benjamin Moore and since it was for their bedrooms we got the Natura paint. It's No VOC paint so they won't be exposed to breathing toxins from the paint. And the people who work there are very knowledgeable. Just thought I would let you know about the no VOC paint since its for your little boy's room! I think Sherwin Williams has a no VOC line as well.

I found your blog awile back, from Kelly's. I love reading it! I just finished painting my boys rooms this weekend and one is grey and the other is grey and white stripes. We were going to use SW's, Dove tail but ended up going with a color from Lowes called Antique Silver and it looks great! I am very happy with how it turned out. The rest of our house is painted with SW colors too, so I was a little nervous about going with Lowes but I went into Sherwin Williams and they weren't overly helpful so I ended up going with Lowes. Good Luck!!
