Big Girl Milestones

The first big milestone is that Jillian started eating solids last week! We had given her rice cereal 3 or 4 times in the past 3 weeks and she loved it, so we decided to bite the bullet and start solids. I made all of Brody’s baby food and plan to do the same for Jillian. Last weekend, I made apple sauce, peaches, and sweet potatoes.

I made enough to get us through the next few weeks. I really enjoy making baby food and look forward to making lots of new things for Jillian to try!

First time sitting in the high chair to eat!

She had applesauce first and she loved it!

She was ready for another bite!

Brody was close by to make sure she was doing a good eating! :) He is a fantastic big brother to Jillian.

Our second big milestone this past week was that Jillian got her first tooth! She has been teething for a while, but her front left tooth finally broke the skin sometime Thursday night/Friday morning. It’s still barely above the surface so I can’t get a picture of it yet, but I’m hoping I will be able to soon. Brody always got his teeth in pairs so I have been checking to see if her other bottom tooth decided to appear as well. So far, it looks like it’s just going to be this one for a while.

I just cannot believe how fast our kids are growing, especially Jillian! She is actually 6 months old today! That’s hard for this momma to believe.  Hopefully, I will have her 6 month post up sometime tomorrow!

You are such a good Mama! I had no desire to make baby food for Amelia. Does it count that I bought/buy all organic? LOL

Jillian is so stinkin' cute.

Hi Jennifer-
I've been reading your blog for ages, but this might just be my first comment. I've especially enjoyed that you and I were pregnant at the same time and you were 4 weeks ahead of me. My daughter came right on her due date, so now our girls are closer to 6 weeks apart. It's been so much fun to follow along with you - and sometimes I laugh at how similar things are... even down to the same exact beloved exersaucer!.

My daughter started cereal last weekend and she'll be starting "real food" soon enough - my quesiton is, where did you get the little freezer storage cubes in your first picture? I have some that I use for pumped milk, but I don't think I want to use them for her babyfood. The ones in your picture look like they're silicone? Are they easy to pop out once they're frozen? And do you store them in the trays or pop them out and put them in ziploc bags? Sorry for the third degree, just thought they look like they work well - please let me know if you like them!!

Thanks for your help!

Jillian looks like such a big girl in the highchair! It seems like just yesterday that she was born!

I love making baby food, too! It is just so nice knowing exactly what is going into my son's mouth. Besides, I hate how runny some of the packaged baby food is. We make so much less of a mess with anything I've made versus store-bought. I do have one question - do you keep the skins on your apples? It looks like it from the top picture. I've always peeled mine, but now I'm thinking it might be a waste of time (and nutrients!).

@Laura - I use these trays and LOVE them! http://www.amazon.com/green-sprouts-Eco-friendly-Silicone-Freezer/dp/B002F9MUM0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1300228722&sr=8-1

My husband and I are going to start trying in Aug. and I'm so excited! It can't come soon enough and it's been hard for me to wait. I guess I have to remember time flies! Love following your blog!

I love your blog and reading about fellow mama's with children similar to my own in age. Jillian is so sweet! Our girls are 3 months apart exactly, so I love reading what I have to look forward to in the next months. Happy 6 months, Jillian!

Aren't you amazed at the savings? When I see people buying jars and jars and jars of baby food off the shelf I just want to go over and ask them if they know that a sweet potato is under a $1, or a bag (BAG) of carrots is under $2. AHh. It kills me! Anyway, glad to see JK is enjoying her new food :)

Hi Jennifer! I love your blog! You family is beyond adorable and sweet ;-)

I just started Madison on babyfood and we are making our own as well! Where did you get your storage trays?? Also, how do you serve her the homemade food?? Do you heat it, serve it cold, or room temp?? Sorry for all of the questions...I stress out about changes;-)
