Jill's Birthday Dinner

Last Thursday night, my family came over to celebrate Jill's birthday!Jill requested chicken spaghetti, salad, green beans and rolls for her birthday meal.It was fun having my family over for dinner. I don't know the last time I cooked for them. Maybe before Brody was born! Ha! I cook every month or so for Josh's family but never for my own. Even though my family is in the same town, we are all so busy that we don't eat together except every other Sunday. It was fun to eat with them on a week night. I think I will start having them over more often since my mom hand washed all my dishes while we watched the NFL draft. :) She is so sweet and so helpful! Josh and Brandon didn't move all night. They ate in front on the TV so they could watch the draft and then they played on their phones. Exciting night! Ha! After eating, we had birthday cake from Rick's!
Isn't this cake sooo cute?? I bought these plates and napkins and had Rick's make a cake to match. Jill loves paisley so when I saw these I knew it would be perfect for her. Jill opened her cards and gifts after we ate cake. This is Brody's card to her. He spent a lot of time coloring the inside of the card and the envelope. He would color a while and then look at me and say, "nice?" I would have to tell him it looked nice before he would start to color again! Haha! Brody enjoyed himself as well that night. His favorite thing to do right now is to play with our vacuum cleaner. He is obsessed with it! Ha!A few people requested I post the poof video again in honor of Jill's birthday so here is the link to the post with the video. Enjoy!!

Wednesday

We have had a busy day today. I feel like that's just the norm these days but I enjoy being out and about with Brody! Who wouldn't love spending their days with this cutie??
We started the morning by letting Brody play at church while I met some friends from MOPS at Panera. We had coffee and bagels and were just able to visit! It was a great morning.
I left Panera and picked-up Brody from church and then, he and I headed to the mall to eat lunch at Chick-Fil-A. It's much easier to go to the mall CFA at lunch time because it is less crowded than the stand alone. When we were in line to order, I saw that our friends, Heather and Zach were also there getting lunch.
It was funny running into them because Heather and I had just eaten at Panera together and didn't mention our lunch plans to each other. Heather invited us to eat with her family, who had all met at the mall for lunch. When I say whole family, this is what I mean! :)
Brother, Sister, Mom, mom's best friends, friend's son, and the rest of us! It was so fun to visit with her family. It had been a while since I had seen any of them. They are all so sweet!

After lunch, we dashed over to a ground breaking for a new elementary school. My dad is the project development officer for a construction company and he had gotten this job for them recently. This was only my second ground breaking to go to in the 4 years he has worked for this company. We thought it might be fun for Brody to go to this particular one today.
Brody tried to help break ground while we were there! I love how big he looks in his hard hat!He had so much fun! As soon as we got there he saw all the construction vehicles and started yelling, "dump truck!" Then, he saw the big brush fire that they had going where they were clearing the land and he yelled, "hot!" He was going crazy with all the action out there. We stayed out there for about 30 minutes but it was enough time to exhaust Brody. He fell asleep on the way home!I got a few things ready around the house for small group while Brody slept. Before I knew it, Josh was home from work and I quickly cooked dinner before our friends came over for Bible study. This is what I cooked. Please try not to be jealous. It beats fatty, greasy fast food, right? We had a great Bible study and now I'm laying on the couch thinking about eating something else. I have already polished off chips and salsa, an iced honey bun, and a granola bar since dinner. How does a baby that's 5 inches long and weighs just a few ounces cause me to eat so much?? It's crazy!! :)

I hope y'all had a great Wednesday!!

Atlanta

This weekend, I went to Atlanta with some friends for a Beth Moore conference. I had been looking forward to this weekend away for several months!

Friday, the 5 of us headed to the Branson airport to fly to Atlanta. I had such a wonderful time with these sweet girls! I laughed all weekend long! They are hilarious!!!Amanda, Hillary, Me, Laurie, and Kelly

When we arrived in Atlanta, we were picked-up at the airport by 3 of our bloggy friends...Faith, Caroline and Jenna! I was so excited to finally meet these girls in person. It was like we had all known each other forever. We left the airport and headed straight to eat at The Varsity. We had a great time talking and eating! I might have eaten two cheeseburgers and fries. I was starving after the flight and the burgers were really small. One of the girls asked me if I really got two cheeseburgers and I said, "Yes...one for me and one for the baby!" :)We headed back to the hotel to hang out. I visited with Megan, Erin, Dina, and Rachel. We had a lot of fun chatting!!! I didn't get any pictures with these girls because we were always in our pajamas when we hung out!

Saturday, we got up early and headed to see Beth Moore! It was a wonderful conference. I think it was my 5th time to attend one of her conferences. They are always awesome!Amanda, Mandi, and Me

I loved getting to visit with Mandi during breaks at the conference. She has been a blog friend since before Brody was born and I just love her. She is exactly as I imagined her but even sweeter in person..if that's even possible! Ashley and Betsy (mom and daughter) sat in front of us at the conference. They are the cutest! I love Betsy blog and I hope I'm as cute as her when my kids are grown. :) They were such joys to be around. Caroline and Jenna

They are soooo fun! I loved spending the weekend with them and I am so THANKFUL that Jenna drove us all over Atlanta. She was great!Me and Caroline

After the conference, we headed to eat at Copeland's. They sat us in a back room at one big table so we were all able to eat and visit! It was the perfect ending to such a great day!My college friend, Terri, lives in the Atlanta area. She also met us for dinner. She is so funny! I loved getting to see her. I think it had been almost 3 years since we had seen each other. Terri, Jenna, Me Mandi, Faith and Caroline

We got up early Sunday and headed to the airport. Our sweet friends dropped us off before heading their separate ways. We hated to say good-bye. Our weekend with them went by too quickly! We loved every minute of our time with them. The 5 of us got on a plane and fly back to Branson. We ate lunch at my favorite restaurants in Branson, then got into the car for our two hour drive home. Me and Kelly at lunch.
We were all so tired at this point!

Amanda, Hillary and Laurie

I am so thankful for Josh. He did a wonderful job being Mr. Mom this weekend. I am almost positive that Brody didn't miss me for one second. He had such a great time with his daddy. I am so thankful for the time away with friends this weekend. It couldn't have been more fun! It was so neat to have so many bloggers in one place. It really was a perfect weekend!

Happy Birthday, Aunt Jilly!

Today is my sister's 23rd birthday. It's also marks my 23rd anniversary of no longer being an only child. Fortunately, I love Jill so it doesn't bother me that she brought such drama to my 2 year old life. Honestly, I can't remember life without her. She tends to have that effect on people! :)Not only is she a wonderful sister, but she is a fantastic aunt as well! Brody loves Jill so much! When we go to my parent's house, he runs into her room and says, "Dillllll!!" If she isn't home then he walks around the house with his arms in the air saying, Dill?"
When he pretends to talk on the phone he often talks to "Dill". Sometimes if he is mad at me he will cry for his "Dill". He even throws fits if we have been out with Jill and he can't go home with her. Last week he screamed and kicked his seat on the way home from the mall because he wanted Jill. Next time I will just send him home with her. :)

We love you, Jill and we hope you have a great day! We cannot wait to eat cake and celebrate with you tonight!

Baby Names

The question we have been asked most frequently the last several weeks is if we have names picked out for the baby. Up until this week this answer has been no.

Things have been very different this 2nd time around. We have been more laid back and more patient about things. When we were pregnant with Brody, we had a boy name and a girl name by week 9. I found out I was pregnant at 7.5 weeks so you see how quickly we moved! Ha! I had loved the name Brody since college and Josh immediately loved it as well so it was a done deal. :)

This time around we started talking names about week 9 and finally settled on them this week. It was harder to commit this time since we actually had to come-up with names we liked. I wasn't sure if we were ever going to just sit down and choose names. Every time I would bring it up Josh would ask if we could talk about it later since we still had time! Ha! Guys and girls are so different in this area.

In the beginning of the name hunt, I listed some girl names I really liked that Josh totally would not go for. He said some girl names that I totally would not go for as well. I really wish we could have named her Frances Francis but that wouldn't work so we had to keep thinking. :) We finally realized we loved one name. It was our girl name when we were pregnant with Brody and it is again our very favorite. If we have a daughter, her name will be...

Jillian Kate

Jillian means. "youthful" and Kate means "pure". We will call her Jillian. My sister's name is Jill, not Jillian so this shouldn't be confusing since we call her Jillian. We love this name so much. It is so sweet, girly and timeless. I think it sounds like a little girl's name but is also very fitting for her as she grows. We didn't plan this but if we do have a daughter, all 4 of us will have first names that begin with the letter J, as Brody's first name is Joshua. We will be like the Duggars with all our J names, minus 17 children, of course! :)

The boy name has been much harder for us to chose. We had a list of several names we liked. First, we started liking names that began with the letter "T". Then, we talked and decided that another boy with "B" name would be cute since we have Brody. We had 2 "B" names we really liked. I told Josh I wanted him to pick. I just feel like that if we have another boy they are "his" boys. I wanted them both to have names he loved. Names that he thought would be great sports names...you know, the important things when naming your children! Ha! This weekend, Josh chose the boy name. If we have a son, his name will be...

Beau Turner

Beau means, "beautiful and handsome." I think it is such a sweet name. Turner was one of our "T" names we loved. It means "worker." I had never really thought about using Turner for a boy until I did that post on the wall decals in January and this was one of the boy names on a decal I liked. We have some friends from church who have 4 boys and all have "T' names. One is named Turner so I have always thought it was a cute, cute name.

I just wanted to share our names. I learned quickly to wait until we had them picked out before we shared them with anyone. It's amazing how everyone suddenly has an opinion. Ha! When I was at my 11 week appointment, my doctor and her nurse were asking us about baby names. I told them our list of 4 or 5 boy names and my sweet nurse said she like Beau best because her husband's name is Beau and her son's name is Brody! Ha!

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this sweet child that will be our Beau or our Jillian!

Hope you have a great Wednesday!!!

17 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights:
How Far Along: 17 Weeks
Size of baby: 5 inches long and weighs 5 ounces. He or she is the size of a turnip!
Total Weight Gain/Loss: 6lbs
Maternity Clothes: I don't need them yet but I have worn a couple of fitted maternity tanks just because they are longer and I feel like they cover more. :)
Gender: ??? I had a dream the baby was a boy this weekend so now I'm confused because 3 weeks ago I dreamed the baby was a girl. With Brody I always dreamed he was a boy.
Movement: Yes! I am starting to feel them more frequently, especially at night.
Food Cravings: Any kind of Food!
What I miss: Sleeping without crazy dreams!
Sleep: I'm sleeping ok other than the dreams that wake me up throughout the night. Y'all seriously cannot imagine the dreams I have been having. They are absolutely crazy and I have a least 2 or 3 of them a night! They started before I even knew I was pregnant and have continued nightly since then.
Symptoms: Frequent bathroom breaks! :) I feel like I go all day long!
Best Moment this week: Going the entire week without getting sick! Praise the Lord! I got sick again this morning but I'm hoping it's almost over!
What I am looking forward to: Our ultrasound in 2 weeks!

Boy or Girl??

Josh and I thought it would be fun this weekend to try some of the gender prediction tests. I have heard all kinds of ways so we tried a few and I thought I would share the results with you all.

The Chinese Gender Chart- BOY

Heart rate- GIRL

Even and Odd Test- BOY

Ring Test- GIRL

Morning Sickness- GIRL

Online Old Wives Tale Test- GIRL

Every single one of these tests were GIRL when we did them with Brody so obviously they are not accurate at all! Ha! It was still fun to try these and see what gender was predicted.

We go for our big ultrasound 2 weeks from today. We can hardly wait! Either way we will be THRILLED! We are just praying that we have a very healthy baby. Finding out the gender that day will just be icing on the cake :)

The other two test I know about are the Drano test and the Gender Kit. I didn't try either of those with Brody but it might be fun to try them this time around.

Are there any more gender tests I should try before May 3rd???

Playing at the Park

After Brody's traumatic afternoon getting shots, Josh and I decided to take him to the park for a picnic and to play Thursday night. Brody had SOOO much energy! We had to take turns chasing him around. He basically started running when we got there and didn't stop for the hour we were there! It was crazy! Brody and Josh were dressed the same but it wasn't planned...blue shirts, khaki shorts and Sperry shoes. :)Brody was actually still in this picture...A rare moment that night! Ha! This picture makes me laugh...It looks like he is whistling!Ignore my crazy hair...I had been running around chasing Brody! He found a few sticks to play with! Before we left he played a little disc golf. :)

Brody fell asleep in the car as soon as we left the park. He was a tired boy from his busy day and fun night! I love spending time at the park with my precious little family!

18 Month Appointment

Yesterday afternoon, I took our big boy for his 18 month appointment. How in the world is he already 18 months old? The appointment went really well. I love being reassured that we are doing a good job as parents. I need that encouragement every once in a while. :)
(He was running out the door to the appointment!)

Brody has really grown over the last 6 months.
Here are his stats:
Weight: 27lbs 10oz-75th percentile (He gained 10 oz since his allergy appt last week! Ha!)
Height: 34 inches-95th percentile!!
Head circ: 19.2 inches- 75th percentile

Brody's doctor could not believe how big he was. He said Brody is a big, thick boy! We laughed when we looked over his growth chart from the past 18 months. Brody was in the 5th percentile for weight until his 9 month appointment when he finally went to about 30-40th percentile. He has always been average height as well until now. I can't believe we are finally on the upper parts of the growth chart. :) It's funny that he is so big because he isn't a big eater. Some days he will only eat a meal or two and just refuses the rest of his food. I cannot imagine how big he would be if he ate a lot! He doesn't eat meat except for an occasional chicken nugget, but that's hard to get him to eat sometimes. I know weird, huh? We love meat so I'm not sure why our child is vegan! Haha! Can you imagine how much he would weigh if he liked meat? He only will eat cheese, fruits, crackers and breads. Our doctor told me not to worry and suggested a few tricks to get Brody some extra protein. He said at this point he is getting plenty of protein from cheese and milk.
I didn't know Brody was getting shots yesterday though. Three of them to be exact. I think it is worse now when I take him for shots then when he was a little baby. He understands now what is going on and it breaks his heart and mine as well. They made me hold him down against the table today and he was looking up at me like, "This is a fun game, Mom!" Then, the nurses started sticking his little legs and he looked right at me like I was a traitor. My heart just broke. I had tears in my eyes, too. I always cry on shot days. Always. At least now I wait until the nurses leave the room. At his 2 month appointment he and I were both just sobbing before they even left the room! Haha! I got him to stop crying by showing him the flashy, silver band-aids on each of his legs. He saw them and said, "Ohhhh!" And so the band-aid obsession begins. Didn't we all love band-aids at one point in our childhood? After we left the doctor's office, I did what only seemed right after shots...I took him to get ice cream! I felt like I deserved ice cream, too, for having to hold him down on the table. :) My parents always did the same thing for us after shots so it's just a habit now. I love a good habit! Julee met us there while she was on a break. I think Brody enjoyed looking at college girls out the window more than he did eating ice cream. His sibling and I ate all of the ice cream instead. :)

I am so thankful for days like yesterday. I'm thankful I'm a mom to a precious little boy who is perfectly healthy and only has to go to the doctor for check-ups and minor things. I'm thankful I get to spend every single day at home with him. I'm thankful my "job" is to do things like take him to doctor's appointments and to get ice cream. I am so blessed!

Happy Friday!!
