Big Brother Getaway

This past weekend, we took Brody to Tulsa for a fun little getaway before his sister is born. We wanted to do a few fun, special things with him this summer and this was on our list.
We headed to Tulsa Friday evening when Josh got home from work. I had the car packed and ready to go when Josh got home. I told him I was going to document our trunk just packed for the three of us because adding another girl to the mix will increase the luggage by a ton! Ha! We got to Tulsa around 8 and went straight to Ted's to eat Mexican food! It was soooo good! We have several friends who love eating there so we wanted to try it for ourselves and it did not disappoint!
Brody loved the beans and rice. He topped it with a lot of cheese. :) He also loved the sopapillas at the end of our meal. Too bad he doesn't know how good they are with honey. Just a few more months and then he can find out! :)After we finished eating, we headed to our hotel. Brody thought the couch was his bed when we first got there. Too bad we made him sleep in the pack n play. ;)I just love this sweet boy so much! The boys watched TV for a little while. This picture cracks me up! I zoomed in so they didn't see me take it, but they both stare at the TV with the same look on their faces! Brody slept really well at the hotel. We were very thankful! He woke-up around 7:30, so we were able to sleep in a little.
He loved playing with the phone in the room. But he finally realized why he couldn't make any calls. We definitely unplugged it before we let him play with it! :)We got dressed and headed downstairs to eat breakfast. Brody sat in a big chair while he ate! After breakfast, we headed to the Tulsa Zoo. We got there around 10. We wanted to see as many animals as we could before he got too hot since the high that day was over 100 degrees!Brody got tired of the stroller so he walked beside Josh while Josh pushed an empty stroller. Ha!There were a few ducks out just walking around so we stopped to visit with them. Brody thought they were really cute. Thankfully, the zoo has a lot of shaded sidewalks and several indoor exhibits where we could walk in the air conditioning. Josh and I laughed the entire time we were at the zoo because Brody really didn't care about the animals at all. We would walk up to an exhibit and he would say, "That a tree!!! That a wa-wa!" Who cares that there was a ginormous bear right in front of him, he just cared that there were so many trees and so much water around the zoo! I told Josh it made sense though because these are not what animals look like in his mind. He is used to bears that he can hold and that are small and stuffed and look like cartoon characters. He just couldn't understand that the animals in his books and these animals were the same.
He did know one animal though, and that was the giraffe. We were able to get very, very close to the giraffe because it was his feeding time and they had him up next to the gate. As soon as Brody saw him he said, "That a Bobo!!!" Bo-Bo is Brody's large giraffe in his room and he recognized that this animal looked like Bo-bo. We left the zoo around noon since we were all starting to get hot and hungry! We chose The Cheesecake Factory for our next stop. Brody did not waste anytime getting started. He loved the bread and bananas they brought him when we sat down at our table. He had mini-corn dogs and french fries for lunch. He really enjoyed them!
We all enjoyed our lunch. At one point Josh said to me, "You know this food is good when you and I are not even talking while we eat!" So true!
We, of course, had to split a piece of cheesecake at the end of our lunch. It was sooo good!
Brody would not even stop long enough to take a picture. ;)I think this picture shows how much he loved it! We made a shopping stop after lunch and then headed back late that afternoon.
We had such a fun weekend together! We cannot wait to see what a great big brother Brody is going to be to Jillian. We love him so much and we are so thankful for him and so thankful for his sister. Josh and I have definitely been blessed with more than we deserve!

has Brody shown signs of allergies to honey? Just wondering because I've already given honey to my son Brayden and he's only 16 months.

Brody is just cute as a button! He's going to make an awesome big brother. =) Hope you're staying cool this summer. It's been outrageously hot where we live and it makes me wonder how I EVER survived being 8 months preggers two summers ago...*WHEW*

We're excited to take our lil' man to the zoo soon too! Hopefully when it cools down a little we will. Hope you have a great weekend!

Look at that sweet boy. So glad you guys got to get away for a bit. I remember having so many mixed emotions when it was almost time for Gavin to arrive. As soon as he was born I realized it was the best thing we ever did for Emma. She loves her brother so much and they are amazing kids as a result of having one another.

You guys are so blessed. Having a boy and girl together is so much fun. You will be a great MOmmy to both of them.

We have wanted to take H to the Tulsa zoo since she was born but just haven't yet. She loves animals but I wonder if she actually would at the zoo or not?

So glad you guys got a getaway!

We LOVE The Cheesecake Factory and would die to have one here (in central AR)!!

I hear the mini corn dogs is one of the best choices for the kids there, too. It's pretty cool they bring bananas, too. :)
