Big Feet

A few friends and I had a discussion this week on Facebook about our feet growing during pregnancy. We all had experienced a half size growth with each pregnancy. I wore a 9.5 when I got pregnant with Brody. During my pregnancy, I noticed my flats seemed too small and I also noticed my toes seemed to be hanging over the edge of my flip flops. I thought maybe my feet were just swollen or something. Turns out they grew and entire half size, which means I now wear a 10! I'm freaking out thinking about my feet growing another half size this pregnancy. Can you imagine me trying to find 10.5 shoes? It's hard enough to find cute shoes in a 10, but another baby or two and I will probably just borrow Josh's shoes because my feet will be that big.

It was so bad when I was pregnant with Brody that one of my students came up to me a couple of weeks before my due date and said, "Mrs. Francis, you have really big feet." You know it's bad when a four-year old notices.

I laughed so hard the other day because my friend, April, wrote "Yay...size 10 1/2 feet coming soon. Excited for you all!!!" on my FB wall. Before long, I will having my big shoes special made!I'm seriously becoming concerned! :)

I'm curious....Did your feet grow when you were pregnant? And if you have had more than one child, did they grow each pregnancy?

my feet spread OUT during my summer pregnancy. I think most of the problem was swollen feet during a HOT summer. i could not wear flats or any kind of heal or narrow shoe. It was all flip flops for me. I was a maitron of honor 7 months pregnant and i had to wear flip flops and not the shoes the other girls were wearing. I wear a size 9 so I had boat feet as well. My husband called them Flintstone feet. GOOD LUCK!!

My feet did grow, but not with each pregnancy... Before ever being pregnant I wore a 7.5 and now wear an 8, 3 kids later. Isn't it weird that feet would grow from pregnancy!? lol

Oh and I should explain... I noticed that growth after my first baby, so I really don't think my feet have grown much from the other 2 pregnancies. :)

Actually, my feed did seem to grow during both of my pregnancies. However, I was told later on that they didn't actually grow. The ligaments and such tend to sort of stretch out and your arch falls a bit, making your feet seem to grow. They don't really grow, though. But it was frustrating to me since I was a 7.5 and am now an 8.5-9.

Yes! Mine grew a whopping 2 sizes after my baby. I started with a 6.5 and now wear an 8.5. That's unfortunate, huh?

He's 18 months old and I keep waiting for them to shrink. Everytime I see the shoes that don't fit anymore I get a little sad.

Yep. I'm now a 9.5/10 after 2 kids and I started out a 8.5/9. :) So many things change with a baby!

Sersioualy mine grew from a 5.5 to a 6. I own like 100 pairs of shoes that I can no longer fit into. There still in my closet because I just cant think of getting rid of them and starting over. We also plan to have another in a few years should I just stock up on 6.5 now hehhee

Mine didn't grow at all. I think they actually shrunk!! Not much, but it seems like some of my shoes are bigger. I'm sure you'll still be able to find cute shoes!!

I had an 8.5 before my son, then they went to a 9, now I am a 9.5 since the birth of my daughter! Never thought of it before.
By the way, I love your blog!!

I just had a blog post about this! I was a 9.5 before I got pregnant & now a 10. I thought it was just the brand of new shoes I was trying on...but nope! The crazy things babies do!

first pregnancy nope...second i am 31 weeks and they haven't grown yet..i wouldn't mind though..i wear a 7. lol

My feet are weird! I wear a size 8 1/2 wide when I'm pregnant and then I wear a size 8 when I'm not. I think my problem is my weight and swelling when I'm preggers!!!

Guy and Julie said...

Girl, my feet swelled up 2 1/2 sizes bigger when I was pregnant with Shepherd!! I wore a 6, swelled up to an 8 1/2, and now I'm most comfortable in a 6 1/2. So I guess I did grow a 1/2 size...just a painful way to get there! My feet looked U.G.L.Y!!!! They were so swollen that when you poked on them, they stayed indented where you had poked. I never thought they'd look normal again. I wore flip flops 99% of days the entire pregnancy--even with snow on the ground!

well, my feet grew a 1/2 size b/c of swelling, not length but i've always had one foot that was a 1/2 size larger than the other. lol..but after i delivered shelby, they shrunk a 1/2 size so i can't hardly wear an 8 anymore. i'm back in 7 1/2's!! which is also hard to find b/c EVERYONE seems to wear that size!

I am pregnant with my third (due in August) and my feet didn't grow with any of my pregnancies. I am glad because I am a size 9 shoe now. Maybe this time your feet won't grow! Congrats to you on this pregnancy. I look forward to following your journey while I am going through it also.

I've been reading your blog for awhile but I don't think I have ever left a comment. Brody is such a cutie and I am sure the next one will be just as cute. Yes, my feet grew with both pregnancies. With my first I went from 6-7 and with my second I went from 7-8.

I'm embarrassed to say this..but...only my right foot grew! Try having a left foot that is a size 7 and a right foot that is a size 8! It is HORRIBLE! :)

I've only had one but my foot grew a half size and got so swollen the only shoes I could find to fit came from Sears and velcro'd!!!! My sister used to call me Mrs. Soto because our third grade (elderly) teacher wore them all the time!!!

I don't have kids yet so I don't have a personal testimony. BUT, my Mom went from a 5.5-6 when she was pregnant with me and then 6-6.5 with my sister and then 6.5-7 with my brother. I would say that your theory is true!

Mine grew a half size when I was pregnant with my daughter and I am 14 weeks pregnant with my second and no change yet, but I am curious to see what will happen. I had the cutest boots that I can't wear anymore because my feet grew. :( I swear though, having a girl wrecked my whole body. She is totally worth it but not much is the same anymore!

Tidbit...your feet don't actually "grow" the ligaments get really loose and therefore the arch in your foot goes flat and in turn your feet get bigger.

Rhonda said...

My feet did GROW during both pregnancies! I wore a size 8 before pregnant. Now I wear a size 9 1/2 sometimes 10 after two boys! They are worth it though!

Kimberly said...

My feet only grew with my 2nd child. From a 7 1/2 to 8 1/2!!!

Emily said...

I did not experience my feet growing during pregnancy but I can tell you that a 10 1/2 does NOT exist! That's what size I should be and I have yet to find one.

Blue-Eyed Bride said...

i didn't notice it until i had already had him, but mine definitely grew. and i wear a 10 too!! i just stopped wearing heels except for extra special occasions and sometimes church.

Sarah said...

My feet thankfully did NOT grow during my pregnancy. I say thankfully b/c I already wore a size 10! And bad news - they don't make 1/2 sizes once you get past 10 - it just goes straight to an 11!!!

Cara Beth said...

How interesting! I too wear a 9.5 in regular shoes but a 10.5 in running shoes! I can't imagine them getting any bigger! Oh my! Good luck with that, girl!

Gina said...

Mine did! I started out a 7, went to a 7 1/2 after my daughter and am now up to an 8 after my son.

You make me laugh! I think mine have actually grown. My feet are still swollen from giving birth less than a week ago, and my flats are a little snug. I pray it is still just the swelling :)

Mary said...

Mine grew during each pregnancy...so I was a 6-6 1/2 and now I'm an 8. It's freaking me out that I can't wear any of my old shoes. Worth it but a pain to start totally over!

Emily said...

Mine were only swollen... i am still the same size!

Kubin's said...

HA!! Yes, mine grew. I wore a 6, 6 1/2. Now I can only wear a 7. I've heard of this happening to women.

I am shyly (is that a word?) going to admit I wear a size 10.5. But... I have never had a baby! So these big ol' feet are ALL ME! :) But I am 5'9"... so I don't think they look THAT huge. lol At least I hope they don't!

mine grew, but only after the first baby. they stayed the same after my second child. i still squeeze my feet in my old shoes, though since i'm too cheap to want to buy all new shoes :)

My feet grew, but then went back to normal after I had my little guy. It did take a couple of weeks for them to go back. I was so happy to be back into my normal shoes!

My feet spread out, swollen and I think I went up a 1/2 a size but after I had Kelcee they went back down....

Your post is sooo cute.....Don't worry your feet will not grow that much...

I wear a 12 as it is and mostly wear tennis shoes. It is hard to buy cute shoes in bigger sizes. It's always been hard for me. Shoe Carnival is good to carry larger sizes, as well as Payless online. HOWEVER-they usually quit making half sizes once you go above a 10, meaning very few 10.5's out there. Good luck, sincerely.

My feet did grow during pregnancy and they do not seem to be going back. Ha!

I fact, when I metioned I saw you in the mall a couple of weeks ago I was trying to find shoes that fit. I have been squeezing into my dress shoes for work, but it is getting painful.

Jessica said...

Mine didn't grow at all, of course they were huge and swollen when I was pregnant, but they went right back to normal. So there is still hope!!

Superchikk said...

Mine didn't grow at all. And go ahead and hate me, but I never had trouble with swelling or anything, either.

My Mom said that her feet grew a half size with her first pregnancy, but not with any of the others. Can you imagine how large her feet would be if they'd grown a half size with all 7 pregnancies? Ha!

Whitney Molder said...

I was wondering what April meant by that!! TOO FUNNY!

I used to be a nanny and my boss said two things happened when she had both her kids. Her feet got bigger and her blonde hair got darker.

Emily said...

mine did not grow... but my friend candaces did and she has three kids and everytime she has had to get new shoes and give her old ones away!! Love the ultrasound pictures! what a tiny lil blessing from above!

How funny! mine didn't grow either!!!!

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but I HOPE mine grow!! That would be nice :) I wear a 5 or 5.5 so making it to a 6 would be great! haha!!!

Love your heart! My feet didn't grow with either one of my pregnancies. Other than just the normal swelling.

My sister is 6' tall and has always worn a size 13 in ladies. Growing up my parents always had to buy her mens tennis shoes, but now she can find plenty of options.

You can always order shoes online too! But hopefully your feet won't grow any more!

My feet grew with my first. I don't really think they grew with the second. I went up a half size. I was a 7-7 1/2...now I'm an 8.

Adge said...

I didn't know your feet grow when you get pregnant.

Windy said...

yes, a size and a half with each child - I had 3!!!! and my hair got darker and more curly:)
Congrats to your family!

I forgot to add earlier...you are the only person I know with feet as big as mine! I wear a 9!

I've never had a baby, but this happened to both my mom and my aunt! I don't think their feet grew with each pregnancy, though. Just the first.

Kerry said...

My feet didn't grow and I was pregnant with twins!Still a size 7. My skin sure did though...I would take big feet over hanging belly skin any day!

I bet they don't grow anymore this pregnancy! For your sake I hope not, since it seems like it will be very hard to find shoes!

Amo said...

Mine didn't grow with my first and I am hoping they don't grow with this one! My ribs grew though and they have never gone back. A lot of the button down shirts I wore before I got pregnant with Max don't fit anymore. Big ribs!

Michelle said...

God knew I couldn't handle my feet growing anymore! I wear a size 11. Now, imagine trying to find cute shoes in that size. Most stores won't even sale 11. To make it worse, I wear an 11 narrow, however, I do think pregnancy might have widened them a bit!

I just found your blog-- so cute!! I live in NWA too and I've gone to FBC Sprindale my entire life (well, Pinnacle now)! What a small world! And I think we have lots of mutual friends...crazy!
