Friday Fun

I pureed some corn last week along with the usual foods while I was making Brody's baby food. I thought I would try it out on him today. I will let him tell you what he thought about it. Poor guy.
video
I did let him end his lunch with some vanilla yogurt for dessert. He was very happy when he finally got to that part of the meal!

I blew up Brody's safari roller today. He hasn't played with the roller at all, but he has slapped the mess out of the box and laughed and squealed while doing it. I even tried rolling it too him, thinking he might want to play if I played with him, and he scooted around it and headed straight for the box. I love cheap thrills!
On a not so fun note, Josh has been running a fever for a couple of days. He went to the doctor today and got some meds and a shot. His fever was still close to 102 tonight, so I knew it was time for B man to hit the road! The last thing I want is for him to get sick, so I packed a bag, pumped a bottle and sent him to my parents house. I figured he would get more than enough attention over there. I probably spent 10 minutes telling Jill exactly how to do things. I have no idea why. They have kept him a hundred times, but something about over night totally makes me go into freak mom mode. I'm sure by time we have our 3rd child, I will not even put the car in park and just pass them out the car window to anyone who will take them! :) It's just hard to be relaxed with your first, but I do pretty well most of the time. This is only his second night away from us. The first one was when he was 6 months old and he spent the night with them for fun. I'm sure he will never want to come back home! Haha! Brody kept reaching for Josh last night and today, but Josh didn't hold him because he didn't want to get him sick. Brody looked really confused when Josh would walk away and not take him like, "what's wrong with my daddy?" I know they will both be glad to love on each other again soon.

Enjoy your weekend!

Brody's Nursery Tour

Welcome to Brody's nursery!

This is the view from the hallway walking into the nursery.

View of the crib. The canvas above the bed is Brody's initials and was painted by my sweet friend, Leslie.

A close up of the bedding. Brody loves to look at all the bright colored animals!

The giraffe and palm tree beside the crib.

The changing table and glider. This is directly across the room from the crib. Animal canvasas above the changing table. Brody LOVES these and is constantly grabbing them off the wall! We found this cute set on Ebay.

Our very comfy glider/rocker. We have spent countless hours in this chair and I have LOVED every second of it. Hopefully, this chair will be used to rock a few more babies in our future.

We were given this canvas as a gift from some sweet friends. It was painted by Becca. Brody loves looking at it when we rock!

We have loved having this shelf with cubbies in his room. It's great for book and toy storage!

Brody says, "Thanks for visiting my nursery!"

Random Thursday Thoughts

1. Josh and I went out for a couple of hours last night while B stayed with Gigi. While I was getting ready, Brody crawled/scooted into the bathroom, so I decided to fix his hair. I spiked it and sprayed it with a little hairspray so it would stay put. He loved looking at himself in the mirror with his hair fixed. It was very similar to someone else in our house who likes to look at himself in the mirror after he gels his hair in the mornings. Brody must get it honest!

2. My new favorite thing is this tantalizer from Sephora. It's basically body make-up. You put it on and you have an instant tan. Then, it washes off in the shower. It's different from self tanner in that it only lasts the day you put it on, it comes off with soap and water, and you don't look orange. I'm telling you, I'm in love. I used it the Saturday night when I wore that pink and white dress to the wedding and it was amazing how tan I looked when really I'm ghostly white.

3. Speaking of a tan....we are going to the beach in 3 1/2 weeks and I have a few concerns. The first concern is my last little bit of belly/baby fat is not welcomed in my swimsuit. I'm working on it, but it's not cooperating. It just will not fall off. Let's all hope that with daily visits to the treadmill at the gym it will soon go away. My second concern is spending 13 hours in the car with Brody. We will do 3 of those hours to Benton on one day, then drive 10 the following day. Oh goodness! He's an AWESOME baby, but even I whine in the car after like 5 hours! Maybe you should start praying now! We may just decide to live down there for the next two years instead of driving back the next weekend! :)

4. Brody loves cherrios. He has been snacking on them for about 2 weeks now and he can't get enough of them. I laugh so hard when I hear him chomping on them! He works those 4 teeth like a pro! His new thing is to "hide" them in his bib. If I need 30 minutes to do somethings in the kitchen, I will put him in the highchair with cherrios or a teething biscut. That gets me enough time to unload and reload the dishwasher or clean off the counter tops. I can also keep an eye on him since he is in there with me. I kept seeing him stashing his cherrios the other day and it made me laugh. I don't think he figured out he could reach back in and get them, but he did figure out how to put them in there!

5. Brody loves to "read" in the bath. Some days I just stick Brody in the sink if I need to hurry and give him a bath after he has eaten. I know he gets bored because it's not as fun as the big bath tub so I gave him this book the other day and he loved it!

6. I leave you with this video. I think I may change my name to "dada"!

Wedding Weekend

This past weekend, we attended two beautiful weddings in central Arkansas. Friday night, our friends, Rachel and Evan, got married. Rachel and I are pledge sisters and Evan is Julee's brother. Josh and I went to OBU with both of them. The wedding was BEAUTIFUL! It was the first wedding Brody has ever attended. I was very nervous about taking him into the ceremony. I had talked to Rachel and Julee about it and they told me to sit in the mezzanine section towards the back. That way if we needed to leave we could just slip out. Sure enough, we had to leave as soon as Rachel's dad began praying at the beginning of the ceremony. Brody started squealing and laughing and motor boating with his mouth!! I dashed out the door so fast that I'm pretty sure Josh didn't even see us leave! Fortunately, no one heard him except the people on our row.

The reception was a beautiful sit down dinner. Brody had his own spot at our table. They had put a highchair where his name card was instead of a chair. It was so cute! They also had a gift bag for him waiting in his highchair as well. It had a bib, sippy cup, apple juice and cheerios. He was very excited about having something to eat at the reception!

Saturday night, we attended a wedding for Ryan and Sarah. Ryan grew up in Benton and he and Josh went all through school together. I didn't take any pictures at their wedding but I did get a pic of our family before we headed to the wedding. I never realize how tall I am until I see pictures of me standing next to Josh. Especially when I wear heels! Josh is 6'1" or 6'2". I look ginormous in this picture!!! Brody with Mimi and Poppy. Josh's mom went with us to the wedding.

Brody attempted to attend the ceremony on Saturday night. Before it started we were sitting there and Josh looked at me and I knew what the look meant. Brody had just had a blow out!! I opened my clutch and gave Josh a diaper. I was only carrying one diaper and my compact in my clutch. He asked me if I was going to give him any wipes and I told him they didn't fit in the clutch so I left them in the car!! Haha! He was really happy about that! He took Brody out to the car and changed him, and they sat in the foyer during the ceremony. So much for attempting to take him to a wedding. I am so glad to know that he never had to leave because he was screaming or crying. I didn't think he would just because he is usually pretty happy, but babies are unpredictable. We learned that this weekend!

Please Pray for Katie

Please pray for our friend, Katie. She is 26 weeks pregnant and is very sick from an infection that has caused her brain to swell. Baby Reese seems to be doing fine right now, so that is a praise, but Katie is not improving as they had expected, so they will be doing more tests today. Katie and Jason are in our small group at church and are a precious, Godly couple. Please keep them and their entire family in your prayers. You can read the latest updates on Shannon's blog.

Mama

OK, I will do a real post later today, but I had to share exciting news! Well, it's exciting for us anyway!

This morning I went to pick up Brody out of his crib and he said, "mama!" It was so sweet!! He was kind of whimpering when I got to the door and as soon as I walked in he looked straight at me and said "mama"! Too sweet! He has been saying, "mamamamamama" for a while, but he has never said it directly to me like he knew what he was talking about until today.

I picked him up and started screaming, "You said mama!! You said mam!! Say it again!! Can you say it again? Mama!" He looked at me like I had lost my mind. That was the end of it. I don't care if he doesn't say it for the next month. It seriously made my day!

Hope you have a great Thursday!

Oh and if you are wondering he has been saying Dadadadadada for a while as well!

Idol Voting

Brody was so tired last night after he voted for Kris Allen so many times!

So I think I am the only person in the entire state of Arkansas, or even the entire United States that doesn't watch American Idol. I know. It's shocking!!!! I used to watch it in high school and college, but I really don't care to watch it now. Since Brody has been here, Josh and I really don't watch much tv at all. We do watch The Biggest Loser religiously. We do not miss that show. That's about the only show we really watch. We have the tv on most nights, but we just aren't watching it. A lot of nights it just stays on some random sports channel or on the Food Network. I realize that is hard to explain and yes, we might be weird but that's ok. Before Brody, all we did at night was watch tv, but now we would much rather spend our time at night hanging out as a family. I don't want to look back one day when Brody is grown and regret spending my evenings doing things that didn't matter as much in the long run. It's just a personal choice for us. And honestly, I have no idea how I could get anything done if I got addicted to too many shows! I would spend all night on the couch instead of cleaning, laundry, etc. You know. The things I have to do at night because I can't get all of them done during the day!:)

All that being said, we don't watch AI but I did vote A LOT last night for Kris Allen. I sent 700+ text messages. I feel like that is a pretty good amount for someone who doesn't watch the show. I voted for 4 hours straight. I got bored voting some, so I would have to take a break and check FB or blogs on my phone, then I went right back to texting! I was really proud of myself!! Haha!! It did help that I was stuck in the car for an hour and a half of that so it made it easy to text because I was just riding. Here is something really funny. Last week I was proud of myself because I voted twice for him! I know. I went way out of my way!! Haha!! This week I was hard core though!

Drum roll please........We are watching AI tonight!!!!! I know! Try not to pass out and die from shock. I just feel like if I wasted, oops I mean invested, 4 hours of my Tuesday night voting, then I better watch and see who wins! Right? I'm slightly excited, but I'm trying not to let myself know I'm excited because it might led to an addiction of AI again. I went cold turkey breaking myself from it last time, so I'm not for sure I could do that again this time. Haha!

Afternoon at the Park

Yesterday afternoon, I took Brody to a park in Fayetteville. It is very close to the church he attends MDO at, so after I picked him up from there, we headed to the park to walk. It was such a beautiful day! I am soooo excited about the weather this week. I see lots of afternoon walks planned for us! He seemed to really enjoy being at the park. He is such an observer and was constantly finding people to watch. He loved seeing all the children, people and dogs.
The first half of the walk he sat up and looked around, but I could tell that towards the middle of it he was getting sleepy, so I reclined the stroller seat back and within 2 or 3 minutes, this is what he looked like. He slept until we got home. I know he was so relaxed in the nice, warm weather!Brody is taking a nap right now, but we are going walking on the trail in our neighborhood once he wakes up! Hello sunshine!

Our Weekend

We had a really good weekend. We didn't do much, but thats the way we like to spend our weekends! Friday, Brody and I hung out around the house. I needed to finish up on laundry and do a few other things around the house. I had to put Brody in the crib to play while I vacuumed the house that morning because now that he can scoot/crawl, he chases me while I vacuum. Maybe that's a sign he likes it and will want to vacuum for me when he gets older! He didn't seem to mind playing alone though and ended up falling asleep sitting up a few minutes after I took this picture. I guess it's hard work to have so much entertainment in your crib!

Friday night, we took Brody to FNO and Josh and I went to eat in Rogers, then ran to Target and Hobby Lobby. We went back to get Brody and once we got home, Josh asked me if I lost an earring. Um no. I had only worn one earring the entire night and they were big gold hoops. I have no idea how I didn't notice. Once I thought about it, one ear did feel lighter than the other the entire night, but I thought it was just in my head. Haha! Good thing I still have my mommy brain!:)

Saturday, we just ran a few errands then came back home so Brody could take a nap. That afternoon during Brody's nap, we walked in to find this!Brody was mad and I guess decided to just stand up and tell us all about it! I'm normally a "cry it out" kind of mom and I really don't mind letting him cry during his nap. I know he will eventually fall asleep, but for some reason, which I know is totally a God thing, we went to check on him after 5 minutes of crying and we found him standing up, hanging over the rail of his crib! I almost cried!! Josh walked in and picked him up and I just stood at the door with my hands over my mouth trying to figure out how he learned to do that and thanking the Lord that he didn't fall out. He hasn't even hinted that he knew how to stand up on his own, but apparently he does, and in record time, too! So Josh got to spend a few minutes lowering the crib. It didn't seem to bother him that he was missing his nap!! Haha! We finally put him down for a late nap at 5:00 and he didn't wake up until 8:00 Sunday morning. We didn't mean for him to go to bed at 5, but I guess he was tired. He was really happy after those 15 hours of sleep!!!!!!'

We went to church Sunday morning. It was a great message and probably my favorite so far in the series our pastor is doing. Then, that afternoon I helped host a baby shower for Abby. She and her husband, Mark, are in our small group. They are having a baby girl named Ava Kate in June. I guess I was too busy talking because I didn't take a single picture! The shower was so fun though!

Sunday evening, we hung out and played outside a little. Then, we tried to put Brody to bed at 7. He didn't want to got to sleep so I waited a little while, then nursed him again, then tried to put him back down. He was still awake crying. So, we did something we have never done before, which was put him in the carseat and drive him around in the car until he fell asleep. We got to the end of our street and he was out! Josh and I just decided to go driving anyway. It was good talk time for us and Brody didn't seem to mind that we were out and about! Haha!

One more thing, Brody found his top teeth this weekend! I think he is very proud of them! Haha! He just rubs on them. I'm sure they are still a little sore. Isn't this so cute though??

Have a great Monday!

Who does he look like?

I think anytime a baby is born, people ask who does he/she look like. Well, we get asked this question a lot. Some people think Brody looks like me. Some people think he looks like my dad, which he does, because I look like my dad. A few people say they can see Josh. To be honest, I can see Josh in some of his expressions, especially when he smiles. They both have a cute little dimple in their chins and they look alike when they smile. I will have to say that the more I look at baby pictures of me, I think he is a mini me. What do you think??
Me as a baby
Brody
My sister texted me the top picture on Thursday night and the text said, "who does this look like?" Brody had just left their house so when I first received the text, I thought it was a picture of Brody from last night. Then I saw that the baby had a dress on and I realized it was me. Even I will admit he looks a lot like me in this picture. I might or might not have rubbed it in Joshy's face a little! He doesn't mind. He keeps telling me the next one will look like him. That's completely fine with me because that will be one cute baby as well!

Guest Bedroom Tour

I feel like I should give a disclaimer before this guest bedroom tour. This is by no means our ideal guest bedroom. When we got married, we decided to just bring my bed from my parent's house and then work on the room as we went. Well, we obviously have made no progress on this little beauty and the only people that stay in this room are my in-laws and hopefully they don't mind that it looks like this. So just keep that in mind before you think you are looking at some kind of holding cell!! Haha!
This is the view from the door walking into the room.

I love the bedding in this room! I really wish that I had some modern furniture in here because I think it would really look great with the comforter set.

I really like these crosses from Hobby Lobby.

Make shift bedside tables from Hobby Lobby. I love these! The brown and gold color matched this room so well so I decided I would make them work! These will stay somewhere in our house for a while because they are great to store things inside! (The front pic if when Brody was a week old and the back pic is from baby Dedication this past November.)
The cube on the other side of the bed.

We store some of our china/crystal in this closet in this room. We refer to the closet as the wedding closet!!

Thanks for stopping by! Check out Kelly's blog for more guest bedrooms!

New Book and New Teeth

My friend, Leslie, came by last night to bring Brody a gift. Her mother-in-law is a children's book author, and Leslie brought Brody one of her published books! She even had her MIL sign Brody's copy of the book. Katy wrote him the cutest little note! Amazon and Target sell this book. It is the cutest story and such a fun read! I love children's books and I enjoy reading books to Brody so much, so I was thrilled Leslie brought this over for us! Thanks, Les!

In other exciting news at our house, Brody cut his top two front teeth yesterday! Our baby now has 4 teeth!! I can't believe how fast they are coming in. He cut two bottom teeth last month. I did not even realize the tops ones were coming in until they already broke through his gums.

Brody had been fussy Tuesday night and refused to go to sleep, which y'all know isn't like him. He was still not asleep by 10:00, so I nursed him and he finally went to sleep. Well, yesterday morning he was back up at 6, which is early for him. He literally screamed and cried for about 3 hours yesterday morning and he would not let me put him down. Brody just doesn't cry unless he is hungry or tired and he is not clingy at all, so I knew something was wrong. I text messaged Josh and told him what was going on and he texted me back and said, "growth spurt or teething." Hello! I stuck my fingers in the top of his mouth and there those little teeth were! They were not there Tuesday. Josh had even checked them on Tuesday night and they had not broken through the gums. I felt so bad because we usually give him Tylenol every 4 hours and teething tablets when he is teething, but this time he did it all on his own! He is such a trooper. He was back to his old self by the afternoon so I knew he is feeling much better. I'm so glad the teething was easier with these top two. I think the teething was on and off for 2 months before those bottom two came in! Yay Brody! You are getting so big!
